Nanotechnology has revolutionized multiple scientific disciplines due to the possibility of designing materials with unique physicochemical properties. In this context, metallic nanoparticles (NPs), particularly silver nanoparticles (AgNPs), have gained significant interest for their applications in fields such as medicine, agriculture, and the environment, among others. The biosynthesis of these AgNPs, based on the use of biological extracts, represents an ecological and sustainable alternative compared to traditional physicochemical methods, as it avoids the use of toxic reagents, requires less energy, and generates biocompatible products. This doctoral thesis addresses the biosynthesis of AgNPs using strains of the Streptomyces genus, known for their tolerance to heavy metals and their ability to produce bioactive compounds. Seven strains were evaluated, with Streptomyces sp. M7 and Streptomyces sp. Z38 standing out for their AgNPs synthesis capacity. The AgNPs were characterized using various techniques: ultraviolet-visible spectroscopy (UV-Vis), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDS), Attenuated total reflectance Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (ATR-FTIR), Raman spectroscopy, thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), dynamic light scattering (DLS), and zeta potential measurement, conducting a thorough study of their morphology, size, stability, and composition. Additionally, proteins associated with the AgNPs were identified through mass spectrometry, and their interactions with metal surfaces were modeled. The natural functionalization of the NPs by microbial biomolecules associated with their surface revealed their bioactive properties in antimicrobial activity assays and plant growth promotion. The biogenic AgNPs exhibited strong antimicrobial activity against multi-resistant bacteria, highlighting their potential as alternative antimicrobial agents in a global context marked by the increasing resistance to conventional antibiotics. They also had a notable positive effect on maize plants grown under saline stress conditions, significantly improving their growth and reducing oxidative damage. The post-application soil quality was further analyzed, suggesting a positive environmental impact due to the enhancement of the overall metabolism of the soil microbiota, emphasizing the potential of biogenic AgNPs as a tool to improve crop tolerance to adverse conditions without compromising soil microbiota. This work highlights the biotechnological potential of using actinobacteria for the sustainable production of AgNPs with potential applications in the biomedical and agricultural sectors.en
