| dc.description.abstract | This thesis proposes a stratigraphic and structural model for the Urueña River area, a transition zone between the Santa Bárbara System and the Chaco Plain (bordering Tucumán, Salta, and Santiago del Estero). The methodology integrates surface geology surveys with the interpretation of 2D seismic data from the subsoil (lines TUC1 and TUC2), allowing for a comprehensive analysis of the evolution of the basin. The seismo-stratigraphic interpretation allows us to differentiate the evolutionary stages of the filling of the Salta Group Basin: a syn-rift stage (Pirgua Subgroup) was identified, characterized by wedge geometries and normal fault control, followed by a post-rift stage (Balbuena and Santa Bárbara Subgroups) with tabular depositional geometry and regional expansion. The latter is currently segmented and uplifted by high-angle reverse faults. Furthermore, the correlation of well and outcrop data confirmed that the calcareous levels of the Yacoraite Formation (Balbuena Subgroup) act as key seismic markers due to their strong acoustic impedance contrast. Structurally, modeling shows that the area responds to a thick-skinned tectonic style, where high-angle reverse faults cut through the post-rift sequence, generating flexural slip folds and tectonic repetition of the units. Seismic evidence reveals that the Andean deformation front in the subsurface extends approximately 5 km further east than traditionally recognized at the surface. This finding redefines the eastern boundary of the orogen and expands the area of prospective interest, suggesting the continuity of deep structural traps towards the foreland. | en |
