Resumen

ABSTRACT: In the region of northwest Argentine, the use of the earth prevailed in the construction of the habitat throughout the different historical periods. The technological knowledge transmitted by generations, allowed its survival until today, in the rural areas. The most used constructive technologies were the adobe masonry and roof of mud “cake” or of straw. The natural landscape with these constructions, with their color and texture characteristics defined the vernacular heritage in rural areas of the valleys, canyons and highlands of the region. The present article exposes, with a critical vision, the traditional architecture and the construc-tive and architectonic innovations that are manifesting in the towns in the last decades and in consequence, the changes that are taking place in the traditional built profile.
